Day 1 of 30 Days of Writing Prompts.

Today is day 1. I'm so excited for this. Like I said in my first post about this, I've been trying to find away to get back into writing. I truly believe that this will help me. So thank you, guys for taking the time to read this post.

I had set a 30 minutes timer for this writing prompt. I hope you enjoy this start of a story that came from this writing prompt.

Writing Prompts #1,139

As a young woman living with your stepmother and stepsisters, you hope to someday move out and live your life the way you want to. Until then, you have to deal with your overbearing family, whom you support with three jobs while they do nothing but complain. One day while your family was out shopping, your godmother unexpectedly stops by to visit you, which was surprising since you haven't see her in several years. After a cup of tea and a nice chat, she hands you a rabbit's foot for good luck before leaving. You graciously accept the gift but soon forget about it. However, a month later, your luck seems to have turned around when you are selected to be the next contestant for "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire for a Day?" The game show has you live an extravagant, jet-setting lifestyle for just one day. Anything goes in terms of what you can do—the sky's the limit. If the home audience approves of your choices, you win the grand prize. However, if your day as a millionaire is judged to be too mundane, you go back to your normal life at midnight. You are ecstatic that you have been selected and you are ready to take on the challenge, hoping that this will be your ticket to a new life.

“Jaden!” my stepmother, Lilly, yells from the living room. “You got mail!” I sigh and make my way to her. If I don’t get to her before she makes it to the kitchen, my mail will make it’s way into the trash. I don’t feel like digging it out of the trash today. As I walk up to her she sighs “I don’t know who the hell wants to talk to you.” she says handing me the two letters. I take them and turn away from her.

“I’m going to my room.” I say not even looking at Lilly.

“Did you finish your chores?” My stepsister, Asia, asks from the couch. I fight the urge to sigh and turn a look at her. She’s sitting on the floor while, my other stepsister, Sydney, brads her hair

“Yes, everything is done, until it’s time for me to cook dinner.” I say in a quiet voice. If I don’t speak low, quiet voice I’ll get smacked. Ever since my father died, Lilly; Asia and Sydney, have become my worst nightmare. Looking back I can see the Lilly never really liked me, but I just thought that was because I looked like my mother. Lilly and my mother were best friends until Lilly stole my mother’s first love.

“Fine” Sydney says pulling me out of my thoughts. She waves me off. “You’re cramping my creative style. So, get out of here." I force a smile and bow.

"Thank you. Have a good day." I say turning and walking away with my head held high. I make it to my room before I open any of the letters. The first letter has no return address. What the fuck? Who doesn't put a return address? I open and start reading it.

Dear Jaden,

I hope this letter finds you well. You’ve been selected to participate in the next “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire for a Day?” game show.

What kind of joke is this shit? I look around my room. The wicked three aren't around, at least from what I can tell. So, I keep reading.

If you would like to participate in the show, then please come to 266 grand st. on May 2nd.

I look up at the calender that I hung on the back of my door. Today is April 29th. I wonder if this is real. I lay back on my bed and read the rest of the letter.

If you chose not to participate then do not even bother showing up on May 2nd. If you do show up please understand that you are going to be interviewing to be on the show. Showing up doesn't mean that you will be on the show.

I sigh and look back at my door. Is this going to bite me in the ass? Is this something that the wicked three planned? Am I going to be beaten for going to this? I read the last part of the letter.

We look forward to meeting you and hopefully you'll be on the show.

Merry Meet and Merry Part. Justin, head of show selections.

I set the letter down on my bed and open the other letter.

Dear My Jaden,

I miss seeing you. I'm truly hoping that this letter finds you well. When you're step mother showed up at my house just three weeks ago,

Wait Lilly, visited my father's mother? Why? I keep reading her letter.

And told me you where in some kind of trouble I didn't want to believe her. She insisted that it was true. She wanted me to talk to my lawyer and get you removed from my will. I told her I was going to do that. But I'm not going to. You're my last family left. If you are in some sort of trouble please come and ask me for help. I know your not in the kind of trouble she tried to lead me to believe. I love you never forget that.

Love,

Grandma Black.
